Helping thousands of people shape the future of local healthcare

From November 2024 to February 2025, we worked with NHS Devon via our Healthwatch project to design and deliver an inclusive communications and engagement campaign supporting the development of a new 10 Year Health Plan for Devon, Plymouth and Torbay.

The project focused on making participation accessible to as many people as possible – using a mix of digital, face-to-face and traditional communication methods to reach communities across the county.

See a video of the project below:

What the project has done

  • Supported engagement activity gathering 3,500+ views, experiences and ideas from local residents
  • Delivered engagement at 5 large locality workshops, alongside 42 additional community events, talks and drop-ins across Devon
  • Chaired 10 facilitated workshops to help capture constructive discussion and feedback
  • Created accessible participation routes including freephone and freepost options for people unable to engage online
  • Attended regular planning, communications and stakeholder meetings to coordinate campaign delivery.

Communications and marketing activity

  • Shared campaign messages with almost 3,000 email newsletter subscribers and networks including 150 organisations via the HW Assist network
  • Produced and distributed 3 stakeholder briefings to hundreds of local and national health and care leaders
  • Issued 2 press releases, generating wider media coverage
  • Published 100+ social media posts across each Healthwatch social channel, reaching thousands of followers
  • Created 4 promotional videos to support engagement and explain the consultation
  • Used website banners, news stories, posters, postcards and printed materials to widen awareness.

Impact and outcomes

  • Helped ensure engagement included people less likely to participate through traditional online consultations
  • Increased visibility and awareness of the NHS 10 Year Plan across communities in Devon, Plymouth and Torbay
  • Supported a large-scale, multi-channel engagement campaign combining digital communications with face-to-face outreach
  • Demonstrated how accessible communications can improve participation and strengthen local decision-making
  • Contributed to evidence shaping long-term NHS planning across the region.
